This book has helped both my husband and I with our approach to parenting! Bette is not only helpful with so many parenting tips but funny and witty too. This book really has helped both my husband and I with our approach to parenting and our everyday journey with our children.
When I came to this book, it was with great thirst for something – anything – to help me deal with my parenting struggles. As a mother of three, I felt somewhat skeptical, yet even more tired and tapped out of my own mental and emotional resources. I wanted to raise children who are strong, independent, and loving, but I couldn’t see past the daily grind. Through reading this book and shifting my parenting focus, I was not only able to find additional inner resources, but I was able to return to enjoying the parenting journey again.
Her witty, yet compassionate advice assumes that readers have parenting ability and the best intentions, but just need to make small but essential adjustments to their parenting compasses to find their way. With just the right mix of humor and wisdom, she doesn’t flinch from the challenges of parenting but offers ready-to-use, and practical tools that work. I have read just about every book out there on parenting. I have a strong willed, stubborn, and highly emotional little boy. After reading this book and applying those very simple effective parenting styles I am so pleased to see such a change in my child. He is expressing himself in a better way, his tantrums have backed off about 90%, and when he does have a meltdown they are usually over quickly and we are back to having a good time. This book gives you a little different more empathetic way of looking at parenting. It's really just a small switch in the way you speak to your child and the wording used and you really do see such a different response from you child. I love that not only is it simple and not to wordy but not bogged down by a lot of stories that you either can't relate to or just don't want to read. The book is short to the point and gives you tools you can use right away. This is a book that I plan on giving to all new parents!!! In closing I just want to share the most important part of what this book has done for us; my son is so much happier and seems calmer than he has every been. Our days are spent having fun and not dealing with meltdowns anymore. No child is perfect and we still have our moments. But I am happy to report those moments are fewer than before and last in duration so significantly less. Bette you book is amazing keep them coming please!!!
